| | | General comments? | A bargain at just over $10K, I fell in love with it on the test drive. However, had I had just taken a longer stint with it, I would have avoided buying this piece of crap. For a Japanese car, I expected something better!I love and hate the 4-cyl engine. Why? Because there is virtually no low-end torque - all the power is in the top end! But when you get there, the power is sweet. This is definitely a highway traveler that easily tops 120 MPH. The tires and wheels are ugly but all in all it hadles remarkably well (just feels a tad heavy). The manual transmission had a grinding noise the first day I bought it, and gears 1-4 need to be shorter and spaced closer together. The 5th gear is a little short for my taste as well (lending itself to poor fuel economy). I would have designed it differently. The sunroof was obviously an outsourced job (NOT done by Mitsubishi), and the stereo sounds boomy and underpowered. There was also a rare seal leak in the rear windshield that caused a pool of water to gather in the trunk and on the diver side. It was fixed under warranty, but that didn't give me a good feeling.I am looking into upgrading everything - the wheels, tires, stereo, suspension, and maybe even a supercharger.Avoid this car if you want to keep you hands out of your pocket to reach for your credit card. I have a feeling I haven't seen the end of this car's problems. Even the 94 Hyundai Scoupe I bought years back didn't have these fundamental design flaws!I shoulda listened to my wife. She believes only in German cars. I beginng to see why. | | | Previous car | Hyundai Elantra - with awesome performance and a 10-yr warranty who could go wrong?Volkwagen Jetta - a little more dough would buy me a world -class car! |
