What things have gone wrong with the car?Brake Nightmare. Suspension gets excited over slight bumps= VERY rough ride expected. Hard to keep aligned therefore burning through tires at the same rate as brakes. Horrible design. But what a good looker! Please don't let that fool you, however. Read this site and various others and you will know that I am not an isolated case. Brake problems for nearly all Galant owners is quite common.

General comments? The infamous Galant. For the first few months you will be genuinely pleased with your purchase. You will receive your first recall notice and think, "oh, it's okay, most cars have recalls." You will love the passing power of the V6, but wonder why the 4-speed auto is a little jerky. You'll appreciate the sporty "wannabe BMW" look that stands apart from the all too common competition. You'll notice the interior door panels coming unglued, the foglights cracking, the glovebox misalligned due to poor build quality, and brake failure prematurely. Don't be shocked if you need new pads AND rotors at 20,000 miles. Mitsubishi has a SERIOUS ongoing problem with brakes and rotors. Very short life of both components is to be expected. Second, third, and fourth recall notices don't induce joy when writing your car payment check at the end of the month. RESALE VALUE IS HORRIBLE. If you plan on keeping this car for 1-3 years, I wouldn't recommend it. You will be murdered at trade in especially. But if this will be around for the long haul, resale doesn't matter. But always remember the frequent brake jobs and questionable long term durability. As far as reliability, my 2 years with the car never turned up anything. Always eager to go, but with a nightmare brake and front suspension problem.
Previous carYou name it. Only owned 4 cars, but driven mostly everything thru rentals or friends owning. Traded Galant in last month for a new Saab 9-5. Superior car in everyway, but superior price.
