| | Model | Galant GTZ | | | What things have gone wrong with the car? | torquey at hard takeoffs, transmission shifts in and out of overdrive too much at times, no lumbar support on seats (added in 2000); chrome on windows only at bottom of window not all the way around (looks odd), lacks rear armrest, faux wood doesn't match this cars sporty nature | | | | |
| | | General comments? | I traded my 96 Galant in for a GTZ because I wanted an automatic and a V6. I was impressed by the reliability of my previous car. A great, fast car for a V6. Handles well. I bought it and then my wife took it from me (imagine that). Nice alloy wheels and styling throughout, although I don't personally care for the white faced gauges, and I think the spoiler's a little exaggerated. Other than that, I love it. I feel like I'm going to come out of the seat on turns, I wish it had lumbar support or better bolsters (maybe I'm just taking the turns too fast). This car is quick but thirsty on fuel (my V8 T-Bird gets better mpg). No problems with it except a problem with the ignition (lots of accessories wouldn't come on), which the dealer quickly fixed. The Infinity sound system is great and powerful (7 speakers), and is CD changer ready. Nice driver power seat with power recliner, and the leather upholstery is pretty good, cleans up well. Dislike that only the seat faces are leather and the back is hard plastic (has side airbags), although it does prevent feeling knees from the passenger behind you. Came with heated mirrors (first experience with them) - so convenient when they're fogged up. I get compliments all the time on it from people I don't know. Limited color choices - but black is great - requires constant washing but it's worth it. If I trade this car, I'll buy another one or a Diamante.Service (routine maintenance) is not overly expensive either, which is a plus. The car is great except I'd like a few more gadgets and toys, like automatic climate control, heated seats, etc. Hope Mitsubishi could give us Diamante equipment in the Galant. The back isn't quite roomy enough for adults to be comfortable for a long ride - particularly if the front seat occupants are average - tall in height and have to put the seat back. But its fine for occassional transporting or primarily two passengers and the dog (like us). In terms of performance and reliability its tops, and a true value. The dealer charged me less than retail. I also enjoy driving a vehicle which there are few of on the road. See a lot of Galants, but very few GTZs. I'd recommend this car to anyone looking for a quick, sporty sedan under $25k. | | | Previous car | Better styling |
